In the early 1930s, an alphabet based on the Latin one was created for the Balochi of the USSR. It included the following letters:

A ә in c ç d ᶁ e f g h i j k ʟ m n o p q r s ş t ƫ u v x z ƶ '

On this alphabet primers were published, translations of ideological works and a page in a local newspaper were be printing. But in the late 1930s book publishing in the Balochi language ceased in the USSR .

In December 1989, the page in the Balochi language was printed in the Iolotanskaya district newspaper "Taze Durmush". It was used the standard Cyrillic alphabet without additional signs in this text. In 1990, the Leningrad scientist S. Aksenov, together with Balochi intellectuals,worked out a new Balochi alphabet on a Cyrillic basis. In 1992-1993 several textbooks for primary school were published on it, and in 2005 the Bible Translation Institute published the Gospel of Luke on this alphabet.
